Walking Backwards

A few weeks ago I read some article posing the question “Is Twitter killing traditional blogging?” I scoffed a quick “no” at it, and went on with my life—Twittering away, and going weeks between blog posts. Maybe I was wrong. With my half dozen updates about my day-to-day life throughout the day, when it comes time for me to sit down and write about what’s been going on, I feel like I’ve covered it all.

Times are fairly crazy right now. There are a lot of big things happening all at once. So far I’m keeping my sanity.

Work has been exceptionally good lately, actually. Breaking out of the normal routine of magazine work has been a very welcomed change. Lately, I’ve been doing a lot of web work. And what’s more, I’ve been a strangely proud of the work that’s been coming out of it. That’s something that doesn’t really happen too often for me there.

Early last week I made a small after work Disneyland trip with Tera. We were only up there for 4 hours maybe. Grabbed some food, bought some stuff, rode some rides. Had lots of giggles. I miss that damn woman. We always have such good times together.

Big thing #1. New apartment. Danny and I set out to sign a new lease at a joint called Island Club today. Turns out the $1,299 price that was quoted to us only applied to one unit, which was absolutely not made clear to me on my first visit. The rest of the units were up in the high 1400’s, which changed our minds a lot. Certainly not going to pay that price for much less apartment.

We visited a new place called Sunset Views (I do get a kick out of these apartment complex names). About 100 square feet bigger than where we’re at, for $1,350. They’ve only got one unit open now that’s for immediate move-in, which (sadly) we cannot do. We still have a 30-day notice to give at my current place, which we’ll be giving tomorrow.

Danny and I very much like the new Sunset Views place. It’s very close to where I live now, so my commute to work won’t change. It’s bigger, got a fireplace, two balconies, A/C, washer dryer, the whole nine. Unfortunately, our only real plan right now is to cross our fingers, knock on some wood, and hope that something else opens up closer to our move-out date. Not a very sold plan, but it’s all we got right now.

Big thing #2. New car. Last weekend my brakes died. Completely. While it was in the shop, the mechanic must have said something to my dad that kinda spooked him about the state of my car. The phrase “ticking time bomb” was used. So, I’m in dire need of a new car, as soon as possible. Everything on it works rather well right now, but there is apparently lots of potential for that to all go to hell any day now.

Dad and I walked up and down all of Car Country Carlsbad looking at the used pre-owned cars. There were no clear winners, except for the very first car we saw. The other 15 or so cars we got looks at weren’t really speaking to me, at all.

It’s a bit crazy to be doing the new car thing at the same time as the new apartment thing. It seems to be the way the chips have fallen this time around. Thankfully, the money I’m saving in a new apartment can easily be thrown towards a car payment. I’ll call that the silver lining, I guess.

I’ve got more things to write about, as always. I haven’t forgotten about the Top 5 countdown, either. I’m trying to settle on 1 more day, and have to speak to a certain someone first. She’s got a way better memory than I do.

Goodnight Moon.
Dream on.

I’m really happy for you, with your car! I hope all these new things help with your funk :)
